About Rothwells
Our company goes back a long way and has always put you, the customer, first. The business was originally started by Herbert Rothwell, a distinguished ex-serviceman who set up a small engineering supplies concern in his garden shed, in January 1947.
Herbert's enterprise proved so successful that he soon moved into larger premises and eventually erected a purpose-built warehouse at the corner of Duke Street and Princess Street in Rochdale, the home of our present head office.
The company was formally incorporated in 1954 and remained in the Rothwell family's hands until 1977, when it was acquired by J H Temperley Holdings, a company purchased in 1992 by the current chairman, Roy Nuttall. He has been joined by son-in-law Jim Durrant, as finance director, and son Chris Nuttall, as sales director, continuing the firm's proud tradition of family ownership and commitment.
The policy established by Herbert Rothwell in the formative years, of providing personal service and prompt deliveries at competitive prices, continues just as strongly today. Although Herbert would doubtless be surprised at the size and variety of our current customer base and the literally thousands of products we hold in stock to meet their day-to-day professional requirements.
